From May 1 to 3, Caldas da Rainha hosted one of the most prestigious events in the global cutlery industry: the 5th World Meeting of Cutlery Capitals.
This initiative, dedicated to cutlery and crafts, not only helped establish the municipality as the global epicenter of the sector but also marks a historic moment: the first time this prestigious international gathering has been held in Portugal.
Organized by the Caldas da Rainha City Council, the Santa Catarina Parish Council, and AIRO—the Business Association of the Western Region—this event holds international significance, as it brings together master cutlers, industry leaders, official bodies, and enthusiasts from around the world. After taking place in historic centers such as Thiers (France), Albacete (Spain), and Tandil (Argentina), the gathering has now arrived in Caldas da Rainha.
“This event is a historic milestone for Caldas da Rainha. We are not only celebrating our artisanal heritage linked to Santa Catarina, but also affirming our present and future as an industrial and tourist powerhouse on a global scale. Hosting the global cutlery community is an honor and a major driver of growth for our local economy,” emphasized Vítor Marques, Mayor of Caldas da Rainha.
