Registration is now open for the 51st Congress of the International Academy of Ceramics, recognised as one of the most important initiatives in the world of ceramics. The Congress will be held for the first time in Portugal, hosted by Alcobaça and Caldas da Rainha, from 16 to 20 September.
For five days, Alcobaça and Caldas da Rainha, two cities with a strong ceramics identity and tradition, will open their doors to visitors from all over the world to celebrate and discover ceramics.
The Congress, dedicated to the theme ‘Ceramics in the Mediterranean World: from Antiquity to Contemporaneity’, with special emphasis on tiles as a mirror of Portuguese culture, is aimed at members of the International Academy of Ceramics and the general public. Jointly organised by the Portuguese Association of Ceramic Towns and Villages (AptCVC) and the Municipalities of Alcobaça and Caldas da Rainha, as well as panels and papers dedicated to ceramics, the Congress also features an intense cultural programme, with exhibitions, visits and cultural events, as well as a trip to Lisbon and a pre and post tour of southern and northern Portugal.
The International Academy of Ceramics was founded in 1952 with the aim of stimulating international cooperation between ceramics professionals worldwide, bringing together ceramists, designers, collectors, gallerists, conservators, restorers, curators, as well as a significant panel of ceramics-related institutions.
