Sonia Melo is a multidisciplinary artist born in Toronto, Canada. She graduated in Anthropology and Portuguese from the University of Toronto in 1993, and also completed studies in analogue photography at George Brown College. She has participated in several group exhibitions, including at the Hart House Camera Club and the Consulado de Portugal em Toronto, among others. She attended various ceramics and glass courses at the Ontario College of Art (now Ontario College of Art and Design University).
In 2003, she obtained a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies from Universidade Aberta, in Lisbon. She later began exploring other areas of working with clay, such as earth construction and the use of natural pigments, which led her to complete eco-construction training in France at Batipôle in 2012.
In 2017, she obtained a Specialist Technician Diploma in Arts and Crafts – Ceramics and Glass at CENCAL, in Caldas da Rainha, where she continues to attend various courses, from pottery to painting.
In 2025, she inaugurated Arneiro Arts Centre, in collaboration with Elsa Figueiredo French—a ceramics studio, shop and workshop space open to collaboration with other artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines.
