Margarida Antunes

Migui, her business name, was born on 10 April 1969 in Caldas da Rainha. Sister of ceramist Vítor Lopes, she was involved with ceramics from an early age, first as a full-time professional and later as a second activity. It can be said that her apprenticeship was carried out in a family environment, as her mother, at a certain point in her life, was also dedicated to creating clay pieces, mainly nativity scenes. Her studio is located at Rua Amigos do Huambo 26. She prefers to use red clay and with it she creates saints, preferably the popular ones: St Anthony, St John, St Peter, so popular during traditional festivities. The cribs, which are a much sought-after piece by collectors, are also among his favourite works, some small, others a little larger, painted with acrylic paints and glazes. The figures that make up the nativity scenes are delicate and harmonious; their faces convey joy and good humour. The cribs can be made horizontally, containing up to 60 figures, or vertically, where the characters are arranged as if they were walking towards the top of the world. She sells her pieces at fairs and exhibitions, as well as for retail in shops in Nazaré, Caldas da Rainha, Fátima, Porto, Torres Novas and the Algarve, where her pieces are available to anyone who wants to buy them.
