Manuela Domingues was born 24/02/1986 in Coimbra. She graduated in “Joalharia”, at ARCO, in Lisbon, in 2011. In her work, she associates ceramics with jewellery, creating hybrid pieces, in which she combines the various materials and techniques of each of these forms of expression. This happened, in part, due to her school career. After completing the regular course, in the following two years develops an individual project dedicated to the search for dialogue between concept/ thought and materials and the search for the transversality of these possible languages. The artist comes to Caldas da Rainha in 2017. Thanks to her curiosity in broadening knowledge, and having emerged the opportunity to do so in the area of ceramics at CENCAL, she did a more in-depth training in the chapter of “Modeling”, complemented with an internship at BrazGil, porcelain company of Caldas da Rainha. In her jewellery work, she combines not only ceramics with noble metals, but other materials considered less noble, which she reuses. For example when she uses banal payment cards or other cards of the same type, which, cut into small pieces, resulting in pieces of jewellery. Manuela also creates ceramic pieces. This is the case, for example, of suspended vases that, with some plants, in addition to rejoicing her workplace, turn into artistic installations, assuming a sculptural character. Her pieces can be found in fairs, galleries and exhibitions, being available to visitors pieces of contemporary jewelry in a very varied but affordable price range. For a year and a half she has been at Suspenso studio where she is also dedicated to the construction of musical instruments. She makes elements in metal that integrate the mechanism of the transverse flutes, work resulting from a partnership that she has with producers and instrumentalists of these musical instruments.
