Cláudia Canas

Cláudia Canas was born in Lisbon in 1971 and has lived in Caldas da Rainha since 1990.
Her career in ceramics began in 1991 when she learnt to work on the potter’s wheel with Master João Reis and Master Armindo Reis at Cencal.
In 1994 he set up her first studio in Caldas da Rainha, beginning her career in designer ceramics.
At the end of 1996 she moved her studio to Salir de Matos, Caldas da Rainha, where she has been developing her work through constant research and experimentation.
She furthered her knowledge in various workshops, including “Raku” at Cearte- Coimbra, “Raku” – Atelier Arte Aperto- Faenza, with Emídio Galassi, Ceramic Sculpture “Terra-Memória-Terra” with Xohan Viqueira, Herculano Elias, Emídio Galassi and Rui Ribas, “Special Effects Glazes” with Paulo Óscar, “Ceramics and its Incorporation into Public Spaces” with Xohan Viqueira, “Fire Trees – Dialogues between Landscape and Contemporary Ceramics” with Walli Hawes, Cencal- Caldas da Rainha.
In 2013 she graduated in Fine Arts from the School of Arts and Design, Caldas da Rainha.
In her work, she uses stoneware and porcelain pastes as raw materials, along with coloured glazes that contrast with the colour of the paste used. Giving them life in a very distinctive language between form and colour.
Throughout her career she has taken part in various exhibitions and collaborated with several galleries.
